Okay, there are two possible explanations for the phenomena we refer to as "Trans": Endocrine disruption/imbalance in vitro; and genetics, (those crazy X's and Y's).

Remember please that I am not a doctor... reading some of these papers can get tedious, but you may find that by looking at the summaries, you'll understand the basics.
